We are excited to share an upcoming opportunity to roll up your sleeves, grab a paintbrush, and make a lasting impact right here in our neighborhood!
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, The Highland Center is launching the Olive Street Corridor Crosswalk Project in front of The Highland Center, located at 520 Olive Street, Shreveport, LA 71104. This community-driven effort is one of the first in the neighborhood to transform our crosswalks into bright, welcoming spaces that reflect the creativity and spirit of Highland.
This event is made even more special with the support of Noel Community Arts Program (NCAP), who will be on site sponsoring engaging children’s art activities to keep our youngest community members involved while older kids and adults paint the crosswalks.
Why It Matters
Crosswalk art is more than just paint on pavement—it’s about safety, pride, and place-making. By bringing color and design to these intersections, we highlight pedestrian pathways, encourage safe crossings, and celebrate the vibrant community we’re proud to call home.
How You Can Help
We need volunteers to help us paint the crosswalks! Whether you’re an individual looking to give back or part of a group wanting to serve together, your time and energy will make a huge difference.
📅 Date: Saturday, September 20, 2025🕗 Shifts: Between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM📍 Location: The Highland Center, 520 Olive Street, Shreveport, LA
Fun for All Ages
This is a true community event! While the crosswalk design comes to life under the hands of older volunteers, from 9a-12p NCAP will host three kid-friendly art stations to keep children engaged and inspired:
Paint-Your-Own Mini Crosswalks – kids can decorate small wooden boards with their own bright patterns and stripes.
Chalk Art Zone – a safe space to create colorful street art with sidewalk chalk.
Community Banner Project – children can help paint a large banner that will be displayed at The Highland Center to commemorate the day.
