Our Story

The story of Noel Community Arts Program (NCAP) began in 2009 when a group of passionate individuals from Noel Memorial United Methodist Church recognized the need for accessible arts education in the Historic Highland Neighborhood. Driven by a shared belief in the power of the arts to heal, inspire, and bring people together, they established NCAP as an outreach. In 2022, NCAP became its own nonprofit organization with a mission to serve the local community.

Starting with a handful of music and art classes, NCAP quickly became a vibrant hub of creativity. Over the years, our offerings have expanded to include a wide range of programs for all ages, from pottery and painting to choir and community art projects. Our outreach efforts have grown as well, allowing us to partner with local nonprofits and bring the arts to under-resourced populations who might not otherwise have access.

One of the pivotal moments in our history was the launch of our community arts projects, such as murals and the Free Little Art Gallery (located in the Highland Community Garden on Herndon St), which have transformed public spaces and brought people from diverse backgrounds together to create something beautiful. These projects reflect our commitment to not just teaching the arts but also using them as a tool for community building and social change.

Today, NCAP serves as a beacon of creativity in Shreveport, reaching hundreds of individuals each year. Our story is one of growth, resilience, and a deep commitment to our community. As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to our founding vision: to make the arts accessible to all and to use creativity as a force for positive change in our neighborhood and beyond.
